When Marilyn Chambers made her comeback movie, Still Insatiable, there was a great deal of anticipation from long time fans as well as a great deal concern. Would she be able to carry a big budget feature? Would Veronica Hart let her show the same sexual abandon she had in the eighties? The answer to the first was clearly yes since Still Insatiable did well in terms of sales and rentals. Did Veronica let Marilyn unleash her full sexual arsenal? I don't know about that. The movie was a pretty simple little story about an uptight Senator who turned to sex for freedom. It was one of Hart's usual movies with slow motion and some pretty stuff, but I got the feeling from time to time that Marilyn was being held back. Maybe in this one, she can show us the sort of heat we all saw in those MC Private Fantasy movies.

We start out in a dark alley with Ginger and Marilyn dressed like a 1920's gangster picture. They are watching through a window as Erica Boyer turns Asia Carrera over her knee and starts spanking her. Asia really plays the submissive perfectly and you know Erica can dominate other women with the best of them. With Asia's ass high in the air and exposed, Erica licks her asshole a bit. I don't know about you guys, but that's fucking inviting as hell. If you ask me, they need a guy in there to poke those pretty holes, but Erica seems to be doing a pretty good job of driving Asia up a wall. I've never seen this guy, LT Turner before, but he's quick to abuse his power and get Marilyn to give it up. Herschel is being driven mad by Marilyn. Does she exist? His private detective, Tyce Bune hasn't found much out. Things are getting really strange, but they fit together if you just sort of go with it. We get a scene between Marilyn and Erica. We are getting a little veggie heavy, but golden agers are going to love this clash of the hall of fame titans. Marilyn insists on licking Erica, so the blonde shoves her big ass down and makes Ms. Chambers tongue that butthole. Erica shows once again why she was considered one of the best girl on girl performers in the business. She works a big toy into Marilyn and just goes off on the legendary star. Herschel is about to make a magical journey, but first, we get to watch Lauren struggle on the bed. She's all tied up when the woman comes in from room service. Tyce joins her and teases her mercilessly. Thanks to a magic mirror, the whole cast gets to watch as he plays with the pretty blonde. Very sharp picture quality during this scene, but the action is pretty much pretty couples type stuff with a few close ups thrown in. Lauren is pretty good looking and seems to really like riding dick. All the hot action makes the folks on the other side of the mirror horny enough to fuck each other. Nice anal here as Tyce slowly rocks Lauren's back door. He pulls out and shoots all over her tits.

My copy of the movie gets really messed up here and won't track out, so I actually miss the whole final orgy. You know I like to give you a start to finish review, but there is no visible picture here for me. (and the store across the way didn't have a copy for rent.) From the sound of it, both Marilyn and Asia get fucked pretty good in the final scene. By now, the story has sort of wound down anyway. For me, a plot in porn had better be really good, or simple enough to stay out of the way. At times, Dark Chambers is good, but not good enough to get over the fact that the story got in the way a bit. Marilyn and Herschel do a pretty good job with their dialog, I just wish it were a little tighter. What about the sex? Well, I have to say that I was surprised at how good Erica Boyer looks. She only does veggie sex, but her body is hard and she knows what she's doing. Marilyn has some heat in her scenes, though she is still a bit heavy. I liked the scene with the cop a lot and the three way worked well. Asia Carrera also adds a lot of heat. She was the perfect submissive beauty with Erica and her three way may be the best sex scene of the movie. Veronica Hart has made a well shot, nicely lit, moody movie for couples. Each scene has a different feel and there is a lot here to like, just not quite enough for me.

Starring: On the "Deep Inside" interview with Marilyn Chambers on the DVD of Veronica Hart's "Dark Chambers," the grand dame of porn discusses the challenge of making a second comeback vehicle. She's older and heavier, she says, but it gives middle-aged female viewers someone to relate to. Whether this is pure honesty or a preemptive strike against criticism Chambers is. . . well, not as svelte as her "Green Door" days, the truth is Hart does everything to cover up Chambers' body. It's terrific watching someone Marilyn's age sucking cock like a champ. I've always agrued "older" actresses like Kay Parker and Honey Wilder were often more sexually intriguing than the young stuff. But why are porn producers afraid to show off what Marilyn's still got? Hell, Herschel Savage, her co-star, can do it. But the real problem with "Dark Chambers" is it's a video with decent sex wrapped in a fantasy so convulted it keeps the heat from boiling.

Hart shoots her indoor scenes with harsh shadows and light that in one scene shows off the actresses' makeup but in others conceals the action. It makes the production feel stagebound. The plot centers on Savage, who keeps fucking a mystery woman, played by Chambers, he cannot possess. Sometimes he watches others fucking, like Asia Carrera and latex bound Erica Boyer. Later, Chambers is seen driving along a winding road. When she's stopped by cop L. T. Turner, she blows her ticket ticket away.

There are moments that reach a nice sexual crescendo, as when Marilyn, after sucking on Savage, is taken away by two strangers and given a solid D. P.

The best scene involves Asia and her boyfriend being followed by Bianca Jordan. It turns out Jordan's a sexual stalker who wants a threesome. There will also be some debate about the ending which explains away all the confusion. Though we've seen this twist in mainstream films, it did catch me by surprise.

Because the story is a jumble of scenes it's tough to stick with it.

Overall, a disappointment. A Not to Marilyn: You're still a striking beauty. Don't be afraid to show it off.
